Prof. Goldschmidt completed her doctorate in zoology in 1942 under the guidance of Prof. Georg Haas.
Her research initially focused on chromosomal characterization of arthropods, mainly drosophila flies. Later she focused on human genetics, and conducted studies on the genetics of Jews of different ethnic groups and the impact of intermarriage.
Prof. Goldschmidt laid the foundations for the first clinic in Israel for genetic counseling at Hadassah Hospital, in cooperation with Prof. Tirza Cohen.
