Home » Remote detection of buried landmines using a bacterial sensor developed in Prof. Shimshon Belkin's lab
Prof. Shimshon Belkin, in collaboration with Prof. Amos Nusinovich and Prof. Aharon Agranat, developed an innovative method for remote detection of buried landmines.
The method is based on engineered bacteria, programmed so that when they are in the vicinity of a mine and "smell" the fumes from the explosives, they produce a fluorescent signal that can be measured remotely.
The results of the study were published in the journal Nature BiotECHNOLOGY.
